BELLINGHAM, WA – Western Washington University will host a panel of economic and financial literacy speakers as part of the 2024 Washington Economics Symposium on Tuesday, August 20 from 9:00am-4:30pm at Western Washington University. Teachers can earn 5.5 STEM clock hours for attendance.

“Financial and economic education is facing an uphill battle in Washington State. The Washington Economics Symposium is your chance to help address this. With the recent failure of HB 1915, which would have made financial education a prerequisite for high school graduation, this conference aims to bridge the financial and economic training gap in our educational system. Join educators, business leaders, and government officials to tackle pressing economic issues and attend workshops with hands-on instructional resources to advance economic and financial literacy in Washington, ” said Adam Wright, WWU Faculty & Symposium Co-Organizer.

This year’s speakers include Scott Wolla - Economic Education Officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Senator Sharon Shewmake – 42nd Legislative District, Anneliese Vance-Sherman - Chief Labor Economist of the Employment Security Department, and more.

There are two speaker tracks, outlined below. Registration also includes breakfast, lunch, and a networking reception.

1.    The K-12 educator track features educational sessions with 5.5 STEM clock hours and ready-made lessons.
2.    The business/government leaders track features a diverse panel of speakers with insights on Washington’s economy, the anti-work movement, education policy, and workforce issues.
