KEDC confirms its continuing support for the development of a major motor speedway in Kitsap County
The Kitsap Economic Development Council (KEDC) board of directors at its monthly meeting on November 17, 2005 unanimously passed a resolution confirming its continuing support for International Speedway Corporation’s (ISC) efforts to develop a major motor speedway in south Kitsap County.
The mission of KEDC is to attract and retain jobs and investment in Kitsap County and create for the community, opportunities to generate wealth, enhance the quality of life, and embrace the future.
“We believe this project represents an extraordinary economic development opportunity for Kitsap County,” noted David Porter, KEDC Executive Director. “Our research shows that ISC is a respected public company with a record of success bringing measurable economic benefits to communities in which it has developed raceways.”
In late August 2003 KEDC encouraged ISC to consider Kitsap County as a location for development of a motor speedway project that would accommodate NASCAR racing and has since actively pursued the project.
ISC is now engaged with the state legislature and the Governor’s office to structure a viable public-private partnership and financing package. The fine points of these documents have yet to be disclosed to the public.
Lary Coppola, KEDC board chair confirmed, “We recognize that there remain significant issues associated with the development of this project that must be addressed and fully vetted before the citizens of Kitsap County in a transparent public process. We will continue to gather and disseminate relevant information and promote full and open discussions.”
