Kitsap County has hundreds of miles of saltwater coastline, giving nearly every community in the area access to Puget Sound and its surrounding waterways. The Olympic Mountains—which can be seen distinctly to the west—are a short drive away, and Mount Rainier, part of the Cascade Mountain range east of Seattle, is also a spectacular part of the scenic landscape on sunny days year-round.
Geographically speaking, Kitsap is a peninsula, surrounded by water on three sides: Puget Sound to the east and north and the Hood Canal to the west. The peninsula is connected by the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to Tacoma and the I-5 corridor, by the Hood Canal bridge to the neighboring Olympic Peninsula, and a half a dozen ferry routes make Seattle and its surrounding communities a short boat ride away.
