The trains first entered service in 1962 for the Seattle World’s Fair, operating on a one-mile dual beam guideway between downtown Seattle and the World’s Fair site (now Seattle Center). The two monorail trains (Red Train and Blue Train) have been in nearly continuous operation since then, each logging over 1,000,000 miles of use. ALWEG is no longer in existence, which has required custom work to keep the system performing well for years to come. The purpose of this solicitation is to procure Structural Engineering Consultant Services to support structural aspects of upgrades, major maintenance, repairs, and feasibility studies for the Seattle Center Monorail. Engineering work shall be performed over the next 3 years to support specific upgrade and renovation projects that have a structural component to them. Consultant shall work with City of Seattle Project Manager to ensure that work performed meets the needs and expectations of the Monorail. This will be a cost-reimbursement with fixed fee for profit contract, and total work is estimated to be approximately $250,000. The City may decide to select more than one qualified respondent and split the work between more than one firm if advantageous to the Monorail system. The City expects to achieve the following outcomes through this consultant solicitation: Procure an experienced Structural Engineering Consultant(s) to provide Seattle Center Monorail with engineering services related to upgrades, major maintenance, repairs, and feasibility studies related to various structural elements along the guideway and in the stations. The objectives of the work are to improve safety, increase longevity, and enhance the long-term operation of the Seattle Center Monorail.
