The DOD SBIR 17.2 & STTR 17.B Broad Agency Announcement is Open for Proposal Submission TODAY, May 23, 2017

You may now submit your Phase I proposals for the open SBIR 17.2 and STTR 17.B Broad Agency Announcements (BAA) through the DOD SBIR/STTR proposal submission website at All proposals for this Announcement must be received by 8:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 21, 2017.

Important Dates:

  • May 23, 2017: SBIR 17.2 and STTR 17.B open
  • June 7, 2017: SITIS closes to new questions
  • June 21, 2017: SBIR 17.2 and STTR 17.B close at 8:00 p.m. ET

Proposal Submission
Proposals must be submitted via the DOD SBIR/STTR submission website at following the instructions contained in the Announcement, including the instructions specified in the DOD Component documents to which you are applying. Submissions must include Volume 1: Proposal Cover Sheet, Volume 2: Technical Volume, Volume 3: Cost Volume, and Volume 4: Company Commercialization Report to be considered a complete proposal. Small businesses may modify their proposals at any time until the Announcement closing on June 21, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. ET through the SBIR/STTR submission website. The website is best viewed in all modern, secure browsers such as Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and IE10+. If your firm has any Phase II awards, any resulting Company Commercialization data must be reported and up to date.

Please plan ahead when creating a proposal and submit early in order to avoid any unforeseen complications.

During the open Announcement period, no further direct contact between proposers and topic authors is allowed. However, proposers are encouraged to review relevant information and submit written questions through the SITIS Q&A system at In SITIS, the questioner and respondent remain anonymous, and all questions and answers are posted electronically for general viewing. Questions are limited to technical information related to improving the understanding of a particular topic’s requirements. Any other questions, such as those asking for advice or guidance on solution approach, will not receive a response.

The SITIS Q&A service for this Announcement opened on April 21, 2017 and closes to new questions on June 7, 2017. Proposing firms are advised to monitor SITIS during the Announcement period for questions and answers.

Commercialization Reporting
In order to properly evaluate your firm’s commercialization efforts, as well as to reliably measure the performance and impact of the SBIR and STTR Programs, you must review and ensure that your Company Commercialization data is complete, current, and accurate. The Company Commercialization Report must list every prior SBIR and STTR Phase II award received from any federal agency, regardless of whether the Phase II has commercialized to date. Phase III sales and investment figures, as well as manufacturing-related R&D and other commercialization information, must be updated within the last 12 months for all Phase II awards.
